Jobber Length

Jobber length drill bits are the most commonly found type of bit. Manufacturers producing drill bits made ones of medium length suitable for a wide variety of jobs, because that was the type most desirable for general distribution. The term Jobber refers to a person or company that buys from manufacturers and sells to retailers and was commonly used in the late 19^th & early 20^th centuries. The name stuck and that is why the term Jobber length drill bits is still in use today.
